Common Name: Lemon-scented Darwinia
Description: Darwinia citriodora, commonly known as Lemon-scented Darwinia, is a compact, aromatic shrub native to the south-west of Western Australia. It typically grows to about 1.5 metres in height and width, forming a rounded shape. The plant features oblong to lance-shaped leaves that release a pleasant lemon scent when crushed. From May to December, it produces tubular flowers that transition from white to red, often appearing in pendulous clusters. This extended flowering period adds vibrant colour to gardens over many months. Lemon-scented Darwinia thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun to part shade. It is well-suited to Melbourne's climate, provided it is protected from heavy frost. Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain its shape and encourages dense growth. This species is also known for attracting birds and insects, enhancing the biodiversity of garden spaces.
