Common Name:
Quince
Description:
Cydonia oblonga, commonly known as Quince, is a deciduous fruit tree valued for its large, golden-yellow, highly aromatic fruit. The fruit has a firm, dense texture and a tart flavour when raw but transforms into a sweet, fragrant delicacy when cooked, making it ideal for jams, jellies, pastes (such as quince paste for cheese platters), and baking. The tree has a beautiful spreading habit with twisted branches, producing soft pink to white blossoms in spring that attract pollinators. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating a range of conditions, including periods of drought once established. Quince trees are self-fertile, making them an excellent choice for home orchards. Their ornamental appeal and productive nature make them a fantastic dual-purpose tree for gardens.
