Common Name:
Kakabeak

Description:
Clianthus ‘Crazy Cool Red’ is a striking evergreen shrub grown for its dramatic clusters of pendulous, rich red flowers that resemble a bird’s beak. This eye-catching plant brings bold colour and texture to the garden, with soft green, fern-like foliage and an arching habit that gives it a relaxed, slightly cascading appearance. In Melbourne, it performs best in a sunny, sheltered position with well-drained soil and protection from heavy frost and strong winds. Flowering is usually at its peak from spring into early summer, with blooms attracting birds and pollinators to the garden. It is well suited to feature planting, cottage-style borders and large pots where its unusual flowers can be appreciated up close. Once established, it is reasonably waterwise, though it will benefit from regular watering during dry periods and light pruning after flowering to maintain shape.
