Description:
Cistus × pulverulentus 'Sunset' is a hardy, low-growing evergreen shrub valued for its vivid magenta to rose-pink flowers and soft, grey-green foliage. The papery, five-petalled blooms feature bright yellow centres and are produced in abundance, with individual flowers lasting only a short time but being continually replaced throughout the flowering season. In Melbourne, flowering generally begins in spring and can continue well into summer. Its naturally spreading, mounding habit makes it an excellent choice for rockeries, embankments, borders, Mediterranean-style gardens and difficult hot, dry sites. 'Sunset' performs best in full sun and well-drained soil and is particularly tolerant of drought once established, poor soils and coastal exposure. Avoid poorly drained or persistently wet positions, particularly during Melbourne's cooler months. Generally low maintenance, it benefits from light shaping after flowering but should not be cut back hard into old woody growth.
