Common Name:
Yellow Buttons
Description:
Chrysocephalum apiculatum 'Compact', commonly known as Yellow Buttons, is a hardy Australian native groundcover known for its soft silvery-grey foliage and bright golden-yellow button-like flowers. This compact cultivar is especially valued for its neat, low-growing form and extended flowering period, making it ideal for borders, containers, and native-style landscapes. It thrives in well-drained soils and is highly drought tolerant once established, performing well in a variety of conditions including sandy or rocky sites. In Melbourne’s climate, it prefers full sun to part shade and is well-suited to both coastal and inland gardens. The cheerful flowers bloom mainly through spring and summer but can appear sporadically throughout the year in mild climates. The silvery foliage provides year-round interest, and the plant’s resilience to heat, dry conditions, and light frosts makes it an excellent low-maintenance choice.
