Common Name:
Royal Crimson Cherry
Description:
Prunus ‘Royal Crimson’ is a highly ornamental deciduous flowering cherry valued for its rich burgundy foliage, masses of vibrant spring blossoms, and elegant upright form. This striking ornamental tree produces deep purple-red leaves that retain their colour well throughout the growing season, creating strong contrast in the landscape. In spring, the bare branches become covered in abundant clusters of soft pink blossoms before the foliage fully emerges, providing a spectacular seasonal display that attracts bees and other pollinators. As the seasons progress, the foliage may develop warmer red and bronze tones before leaf fall in autumn. ‘Royal Crimson’ performs exceptionally well in Melbourne’s temperate climate, preferring full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. It benefits from regular watering during establishment and performs best in areas with good air circulation. Its moderate size and ornamental qualities make it ideal for feature planting, avenue planting, cottage gardens, and larger residential landscapes.
