Common Name:
Geraldton Wax
Description:
Chamelaucium uncinatum, commonly known as Geraldton Wax, is a highly ornamental Australian native shrub valued for its delicate, waxy flowers and fine, aromatic foliage. This evergreen plant produces masses of small, star-shaped blooms in late winter through spring, ranging in colour from white to pink and deep mauve, often with contrasting centres. The flowers are long-lasting both on the plant and when cut, making it a popular choice for floral arrangements. In Melbourne conditions, it performs best in full sun with excellent drainage, preferring sandy or light soils and disliking heavy, waterlogged conditions. Once established, it is drought tolerant and requires minimal maintenance, though it benefits from light pruning after flowering to encourage a bushier habit. Ideal for coastal gardens, native plantings, and feature shrubs, Geraldton Wax also attracts pollinators and adds a soft, textural quality to the landscape.
