Carpenteria Californian Snow

Common Name:

Carpenteria 'Californian Snow' – Bush Anemone

Description:

Carpenteria 'Californian Snow' is a beautiful, evergreen flowering shrub admired for its elegant white blooms, attractive glossy green foliage and naturally upright, bushy growth habit. This stunning selection of Carpenteria californica produces an abundance of delicate, anemone-like flowers featuring five pure white petals surrounding prominent golden-yellow stamens. The lightly fragrant blooms create a spectacular contrast against the narrow, deep green leaves, bringing a fresh and graceful appearance to garden beds, borders and feature plantings. Its compact growth habit and extended flowering period make it an excellent choice for cottage gardens, Mediterranean-style landscapes and decorative containers.

Flowering predominantly from late spring through summer, with occasional blooms extending into autumn, Carpenteria 'Californian Snow' provides a beautiful seasonal display while attracting bees and other beneficial pollinators. Well suited to Melbourne's temperate climate, it thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil. Once established, it offers good drought tolerance and performs particularly well in sheltered positions protected from harsh winds. Although relatively low maintenance, occasional watering during prolonged dry periods and light pruning after flowering will encourage dense, healthy growth and maintain its attractive shape. Growing approximately 1.5 metres tall and 1 metre wide, this versatile evergreen shrub is ideal for mixed borders, informal hedging, feature planting and large pots, providing year-round structure and seasonal floral beauty.
