Common Name:
Dwarf Illawarra Flame Tree
Description:
Brachychiton x acerifolius 'Little Illawarra' PBR is a compact, grafted form of the iconic Illawarra Flame Tree, prized for its spectacular display of vibrant red bell-shaped flowers and its suitability for smaller gardens. This Australian native hybrid offers all the dramatic seasonal colour of its larger parent, but in a much more manageable size. During late spring to early summer, the tree becomes covered in masses of brilliant scarlet blooms, often appearing on bare branches as the tree briefly sheds its foliage, creating a striking visual impact. Its glossy green leaves are variable in shape, adding further interest throughout the year. Well-suited to Melbourne conditions, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, showing good tolerance to dry periods once established. Ideal as a feature tree in courtyards, suburban gardens, or even large pots, 'Little Illawarra' delivers bold colour and native character without overwhelming the space.
