Common Name:
Blue Mist Flower
Description:
Bartlettina sordida 'Atrorubens' is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its rich, velvety burgundy-toned stems and lush, deep green foliage, contrasted by clusters of soft mauve to lilac-blue flowers. Flowering predominantly in late summer through autumn, it brings valuable colour to the garden when many other plants begin to fade. The blooms are lightly fragrant and highly attractive to pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies. This fast-growing shrub thrives in Melbourne’s temperate climate, performing best in a sheltered position with full sun to part shade and well-drained, fertile soil. Protection from harsh winds and frost is recommended, especially when young. Its bold foliage and late-season floral display make it an excellent feature plant or informal hedge in larger gardens.
