Common Name:
Sentinel Coast Banksia
Description:
Banksia integrifolia 'Sentinel' PBR, commonly known as the Sentinel Coast Banksia, is a narrow, upright cultivar of the well-known Banksia integrifolia, selected for its columnar growth habit and suitability for tight spaces or screening in urban gardens. Native to the eastern coast of Australia, this form has been specifically bred for use in smaller gardens, along driveways, or where height is needed without excessive width. It features leathery, dark green leaves with silver undersides and produces pale yellow, cylindrical flower spikes in autumn and winter, which are highly attractive to native birds and bees. This evergreen tree tolerates salt spray, wind, and drought, making it ideal for coastal and exposed positions around Melbourne. Its moderate size, tidy shape, and low maintenance needs make it excellent for screening, hedging, or as a striking feature tree in native or contemporary garden designs.
