Common Name:
Dark Side of the Moon Astilbe

Description:
Astilbe ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is a dramatic and eye-catching perennial, celebrated for its rich, dark chocolate to deep burgundy foliage and contrasting soft lavender-pink flower plumes. The finely divided leaves emerge with intense colour in spring and retain their deep tones throughout the growing season, providing bold contrast in shaded garden spaces. In late spring to early summer, upright feathery flower spikes rise above the foliage, creating a soft, airy display that brightens darker corners of the garden. This variety thrives in Melbourne’s cooler months and performs best in part shade to full shade with moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Regular watering is essential, particularly during dry spells, as astilbes prefer consistently damp conditions. Ideal for woodland-style plantings, shaded borders, and feature pots, ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ adds both foliage interest and seasonal colour to the landscape.
