Common Name: False Baeckea, Recherche Astartea
Description: Astartea fascicularis, commonly known as False Baeckea or Recherche Astartea, is an evergreen shrub native to southwestern Western Australia. It typically reaches heights between 0.3 to 3 meters, depending on environmental conditions. The plant features slender, reddish young stems that mature into grey, ridged branches. Its small, linear leaves are often arranged in clusters, releasing a spicy fragrance when crushed. Blooming from January to July and again from October to December, Astartea fascicularis produces delicate white or pale pink flowers with five rounded petals and numerous stamens grouped in clusters. This species thrives in sandy and lateritic soils, commonly found along watercourses, in winter-wet depressions, and around granite outcrops. Its adaptability and extended flowering period make it a valuable addition to native garden beds and coastal plantings.
