Common Name:
Mountain Sandwort ‘Montana Snow’
Description:
Arenaria ‘Montana Snow’ is a compact, mat-forming perennial celebrated for its crisp white blooms and lush green foliage. It creates a tidy, low-growing carpet that becomes smothered in a profusion of pure white flowers in spring, giving the effect of a soft snowfall over foliage. This alpine-origin plant thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun, making it ideal for Melbourne’s cooler months and dry summers. It's particularly well-suited to rock gardens, edging, between pavers, or spilling gently over retaining walls and garden borders. While it’s low-maintenance, it appreciates good air circulation and a gravelly or sandy substrate to avoid excess moisture around the roots. ‘Montana Snow’ is evergreen in mild climates and provides year-round texture, with peak performance during spring and early summer. Its neat form and fine texture make it an excellent contrast to coarser foliage plants or brightly coloured perennials.
