Common Name:
African Daisy 'Silverdust Sunset'
Description:
Arctotis ‘Silverdust Sunset’ is a vibrant and hardy ground cover that brings a bold splash of colour to low-maintenance gardens. This South African native hybrid is known for its striking daisy-like flowers that range in shades from sunset orange and coral to deep apricot, often with darker centres that add contrast. Its foliage is equally ornamental, forming a dense, silvery-grey mat that contrasts beautifully with its warm-toned blooms. In Melbourne conditions, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, performing best in drier spots with minimal water once established. 'Silverdust Sunset' is an extended bloomer, producing waves of flowers from spring through autumn, with sporadic flowering even in winter in milder microclimates. Excellent for mass plantings, rockeries, roadside verges, or container gardens, it is both heat and drought tolerant and a magnet for pollinators. Regular deadheading will encourage repeat flowering, and its spreading habit helps suppress weeds, making it as practical as it is decorative.
