Common Name:
Bangalow Palm

Description:
Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, commonly known as the Bangalow Palm, is a stately, fast-growing Australian native palm admired for its elegant form and vibrant green canopy. Native to subtropical rainforests of eastern Australia, this palm features a smooth, grey trunk marked with subtle leaf scars, topped with a lush crown of arching fronds and a prominent green crownshaft. It produces clusters of small purple flowers followed by bright red fruits that are highly attractive to birds. In Melbourne, the Bangalow Palm performs best in sheltered, frost-free environments with consistent moisture and protection from hot, drying winds. It thrives in well-drained, organically rich soils and is ideal for creating a tropical atmosphere in gardens or courtyards. Though typically planted outdoors, young specimens also do well in large containers. With its vertical habit and self-cleaning foliage, it makes a striking feature in subtropical-inspired gardens.
