Common Name:
Kangaroo Paw – Green Form
Description:
Anigozanthos flavidus Green Form is a striking and resilient cultivar of the native Kangaroo Paw, known for its upright stems and vivid green flowers that resemble the paw of a kangaroo. Native to Western Australia but highly adaptable to Victorian conditions, this form is especially popular for its hardiness, repeat flowering, and lush clumping habit. The strappy, evergreen foliage emerges from a rhizomatous base and forms dense clumps that provide a structural element in the garden year-round. This cultivar thrives in full sun and well-drained soils and is particularly tolerant of dry conditions once established, making it an excellent choice for waterwise gardens. Flowering typically occurs from late spring through summer, with the green tubular blooms held aloft on tall, slender stems, attracting bees, birds, and other pollinators. Regular pruning of spent flowers will encourage repeat blooming. While the plant tolerates light frost, mulching and shelter from strong winds will help maintain vigour. Ideal for both native and mixed planting schemes, Anigozanthos flavidus Green Form is also a standout in large pots or massed for dramatic visual effect.
