Common Name:
Pheasant Grass

Description:
Anemanthele ‘Pheasant Grass’, also known as New Zealand Wind Grass, is a graceful, arching ornamental grass prized for its shimmering foliage that shifts in colour with the seasons. Starting off as green in spring, the narrow leaves develop copper, gold, orange and red tones by autumn, giving the plant a striking multi-tonal appearance. This semi-evergreen grass moves beautifully in the breeze, adding soft texture and movement to garden beds, borders, and containers. In summer, it produces airy, bronze-tinged flower plumes that sit above the foliage, adding a feathery, ephemeral charm. It performs best in well-drained soils and tolerates both full sun and part shade, though its foliage colours are most vivid in sunnier positions. Pheasant Grass is drought-tolerant once established and provides year-round interest, making it a versatile choice for Melbourne gardens. It is also a low-maintenance option, requiring little more than an annual tidy-up to remove spent foliage in late winter or early spring.
