Common Name:
Sea Box
Description:
Alyxia buxifolia, commonly known as Sea Box, is a hardy, salt-tolerant Australian native shrub well-suited to coastal environments. With its dense, rounded form and leathery, dark green leaves, it makes an excellent choice for windbreaks, hedging or native gardens. The plant produces small, star-shaped white to creamy flowers in spring and summer, often followed by bright orange-red berries that provide a striking contrast against the foliage. Adapted to sandy and well-drained soils, Sea Box is drought tolerant once established and thrives in full sun to part shade. Its resilience to salt-laden winds makes it ideal for seaside gardens, while its tough, compact growth habit allows for formal shaping or informal mass planting. Seasonally attractive and easy to maintain, Alyxia buxifolia offers both ornamental and ecological value.
