Common Name:
Purple Poppet Calamint

Description:
Acinos ‘Purple Poppet’ is a petite, aromatic perennial prized for its tidy, mounding habit and fine-textured, mint-scented foliage. This variety is a cultivated form of Acinos arvensis, also known as basil thyme or field thyme, and is ideal for Melbourne gardens seeking drought-hardy, low-maintenance ground cover. The plant produces an abundance of tiny, tubular purple flowers from late spring into autumn, which draw in bees and other pollinators. Its small leaves release a pleasant herby aroma when touched, making it a lovely addition near garden paths or in herb gardens. Thriving in well-drained soils and full sun, it tolerates part shade and dry conditions once established, and is well-suited to rockeries, borders, pots, and between pavers. ‘Purple Poppet’ is not only functional but also decorative, offering long-lasting colour and soft texture to any garden space.
