Common Name:
Pacific Sunset Maple

Description:
The Pacific Sunset Maple (Acer truncatum × Acer platanoides 'Warrenred') is a vibrant, medium-sized deciduous tree celebrated for its glossy dark green, sharply-lobed foliage that turns brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red in autumn. This hybrid combines the best traits of its parent species, offering a compact form with a dense canopy, ideal for urban landscapes and home gardens. It grows well in a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, as long as they are moist and well-drained. Suited to Melbourne's climate, it thrives in full sun to part shade and shows excellent tolerance to heat and moderate drought once established. The tree is also valued for its resilience in urban environments, withstanding pollution and confined root spaces. Though it produces inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers in spring, its real showstopper is the foliage, particularly during the cooler months.
