Common Name:
Low Horizon Coastal Rosemary
Description:
Westringia fruticosa (WES06) Low Horizon™ is a dense, ultra-compact ground cover form of the popular coastal rosemary, bred specifically for tight, low-spreading growth. Unlike typical Westringia varieties, Low Horizon™ stays much lower to the ground, forming a neat, rounded mat of soft grey-green foliage that requires little to no pruning to maintain its shape. From spring through summer, it produces small pale mauve flowers, adding a subtle touch of colour without disrupting its clean, architectural form.
Ideal for Melbourne gardens, this Australian native thrives in full sun to part shade and performs exceptionally well in coastal conditions, including windy and salt-exposed sites. It is drought and light frost tolerant once established and is perfect for low-maintenance landscaping, mass planting, borders, retaining wall spillovers, and even rooftop or urban spaces where height restrictions apply. Its tight form and foliage texture make it a reliable substitute for traditional exotic ground covers, with the added benefits of native hardiness and environmental suitability.
