Common Name: Weeping Lilly Pilly
Description:
Waterhousia floribunda, commonly known as the Weeping Lilly Pilly, is a fast-growing, evergreen Australian native tree prized for its elegant, cascading foliage and lush, dense canopy. Its glossy green leaves have a slightly wavy edge and turn bronze to red when new growth emerges. In summer, it produces clusters of small, cream-white flowers that attract bees, followed by small, edible, pinkish berries that appeal to birds. Thriving in Melbourne’s climate, Waterhousia floribunda is highly adaptable, tolerating a variety of soil types, moderate frost, and drought once established. It is ideal for tall hedging, screening, or as a feature tree, providing excellent privacy and wind protection. With regular pruning, it forms a dense, formal hedge, while left untrimmed, it develops into a graceful, weeping tree.
