Common Name:
White Periwinkle
Description:
Vinca minor ‘Alba’, commonly known as White Periwinkle, is a hardy, evergreen ground cover valued for its glossy green foliage and crisp white, star-shaped flowers. Forming a dense, trailing mat, it is ideal for suppressing weeds and covering large areas under trees, along borders, or on sloping sites. In Melbourne’s climate, it flowers primarily through spring and often continues sporadically into summer and autumn, adding a fresh, bright contrast to shaded garden spaces. This low-maintenance plant thrives in well-drained soil and tolerates a wide range of conditions, including dry shade once established. It performs best in part shade to full shade but will also grow in full sun with adequate moisture. Vinca minor ‘Alba’ is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, woodland settings, and underplanting beneath shrubs and trees where a reliable, evergreen carpet is desired.
