Common Name: Pin Oak
Description: Quercus palustris, commonly known as the Pin Oak, is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to North America. It typically reaches heights of 15 to 25 meters, featuring a broad pyramidal crown with distinctive branching: upper branches ascend, middle branches are horizontal, and lower branches droop downward. The leaves are deeply lobed, glossy green in summer, turning vibrant shades of red and bronze in autumn. Small, rounded acorns serve as a food source for wildlife. Pin Oaks thrive in full sun and prefer moist, acidic, well-drained soils. They are valued for their rapid growth and tolerance to urban conditions, making them popular choices for landscapes and street plantings. However, in areas with high soil pH, they may experience chlorosis due to iron deficiency. Regular monitoring and soil amendments can help mitigate this issue.
