Common Name:
Kingsdale Coast Tussock Grass
Description:
Poa poiformis (PP500) KINGSDALE™, commonly known as Kingsdale Coast Tussock Grass, is a refined cultivar of the Australian native Poa poiformis, selected for its improved form, uniformity, and strong performance in landscape settings. This clump-forming, fine-leaved grass features soft blue-green to grey foliage that adds texture and movement to the garden year-round. In spring and early summer, KINGSDALE™ produces slender, upright stems topped with delicate, feathery cream to pale brown seed heads. Bred for compactness and dense coverage, this variety offers a tidy, ornamental alternative to standard native grasses, making it ideal for mass planting, roadside verges, native gardens, and commercial landscapes.
Well adapted to Melbourne’s climate, KINGSDALE™ is extremely drought tolerant, frost hardy, and salt-tolerant — making it suitable for coastal sites, windy areas, and poor soils including sand and clay. It also plays a key role in erosion control due to its fibrous root system and dense ground coverage. Low-maintenance and non-invasive, this grass requires little more than a cutback every few years to rejuvenate its form.
