Common Name:
Russian Sage 'Longin'
Description:
Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Longin' is a refined and highly ornamental perennial shrub valued for its upright habit, silvery aromatic foliage, and masses of lavender-blue flower spikes that appear from summer through to autumn. Compared to standard Russian Sage, 'Longin' is noted for its stronger stems and more compact, tidy growth, making it less prone to flopping in the garden. The finely textured silver-grey foliage provides excellent contrast against surrounding plants and releases a pleasant herbal fragrance when brushed. Its airy flowers attract bees and beneficial pollinators while creating a soft haze of colour through the warmer months. Exceptionally drought tolerant once established, this cultivar thrives in Melbourne’s dry summer conditions and performs best in full sun with sharply drained soil. Ideal for contemporary gardens, cottage borders, gravel gardens, and mass plantings.
