Common Name:
Boston Ivy
Description:
Parthenocissus tricuspidata, commonly known as Boston Ivy, is a fast-growing, deciduous climber renowned for its spectacular seasonal foliage. Its lush, three-lobed green leaves create a dense covering on walls, fences, and pergolas during spring and summer. In autumn, the foliage transforms into brilliant shades of red, orange, and burgundy before falling, providing a dramatic seasonal display. This self-clinging vine uses adhesive pads on its tendrils, allowing it to climb surfaces without damaging masonry. Small, greenish flowers appear in summer, followed by dark blue to black berries that attract birds. Boston Ivy thrives in full sun to part shade and adapts well to various soil conditions. It is frost-hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and a popular choice for creating green walls, reducing heat absorption on buildings, and adding vibrant autumn colour to gardens.
