Common Name:
Flirt™ Nandina
Description:
Nandina domestica 'MURASAKI' PBR, marketed as FLIRT™ by Ozbreed, is a compact, evergreen shrub renowned for its vibrant red new growth during spring, autumn, and often in summer. Unlike other Nandina varieties that display red foliage in winter, FLIRT™ maintains green foliage during the colder months, providing year-round visual interest. This low-growing plant reaches approximately 30–40 cm in height and spreads 40–50 cm wide, making it ideal for use as a ground cover, low hedge, or feature plant. In spring, it produces small white flowers that add to its ornamental appeal. FLIRT™ thrives in full sun to moderate shade and is both drought and cold tolerant once established. It adapts well to a variety of soil types, including clay and well-drained soils. Minimal maintenance is required; pruning every 3–4 years can help maintain its shape and promote dense growth. This variety is also noted for not spreading from seed, making it a safer choice around bushland areas.
