Common Name:
Adagio Maiden Grass
Description:
Miscanthus sinensis 'Adagio', known as Adagio Maiden Grass, is a compact ornamental grass prized for its fine-textured foliage, elegant form, and reliable performance in Australian gardens. This dwarf cultivar of the Chinese silver grass is particularly well-suited to Melbourne’s climate, where it thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. 'Adagio' forms a neat, arching clump of narrow, silvery-green leaves that turn golden-bronze in autumn, providing year-round interest. In late summer to early autumn, it produces feathery, pink-tinged flower plumes that rise above the foliage, fading to a soft silver as they mature. These flowers persist well into winter and are excellent for cut arrangements, fresh or dried. Ideal for borders, mass planting, or container use, 'Adagio' is low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and brings structure and movement to both modern and naturalistic garden designs.
