Common Name:
Yellow Devil Conebush
Description:
Leucadendron salignum 'Yellow Devil' is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its brilliant golden foliage and striking cone-like flowers that add a bold splash of colour to the garden, particularly during the cooler months. This cultivar, bred from the hardy South African Leucadendron salignum species, is specially selected for its intense yellow bracts that surround a cream cone centre, lighting up the landscape from late autumn through spring. The foliage starts green and gradually transitions to vivid gold, especially in colder weather, making it a seasonal standout in Melbourne gardens. Tolerant of drought, wind, and light frosts once established, Yellow Devil thrives in full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soils. It is ideal for low hedging, borders, feature planting, or in pots, and its long-lasting stems are excellent for cut flower use. Regular pruning after flowering will encourage a dense, bushy habit and repeat colour displays.
