Common Name: Angel Wing Jasmine (Jasminum nitidum)
Description: Angel Wing Jasmine is a stunning evergreen vine or shrub native to Papua New Guinea, beloved for its glossy, dark-green foliage and exquisite star-shaped, fragrant white flowers. Emerging from slender twining stems, each bloom comprises several pinwheel-like petals, often around 4–5 cm across, held in clusters from purple-tinged buds. This showy jasmine blooms prolifically from late spring through summer—and sometimes into autumn—filling gardens with a sweet, intense fragrance. In Melbourne, it thrives in full sun to part shade and benefits from fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and able to withstand light frosts. The plant can be gently trained over trellises, arbors, fences, or allowed to form a lush groundcover. Regular pruning after flowering keeps it in check and encourages fresh growth.
