Common Name: Pineapple Guava
Description:
Feijoa sellowiana, commonly known as Pineapple Guava, is a versatile, evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its ornamental value, edible fruit, and resilience. It produces striking, pink and white flowers in late spring to early summer, with prominent red stamens that attract bees and birds. The egg-shaped green fruit ripens in autumn, offering a sweet, aromatic flavour reminiscent of pineapple, guava, and mint. The dense, silver-green foliage makes it an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or feature planting. Thriving in Melbourne’s climate, Feijoa prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate watering. It is drought and frost tolerant once established and benefits from occasional pruning to maintain shape and encourage fruit production.
