Common Name:
Tasman Flax Lily 'Tasred'®
Description:
Dianella tasmanica (TR20) Tasred® is a bold and colourful Australian native known for its lush, upright foliage and striking seasonal highlights. This hardy clumping plant features broad, strappy green leaves that emerge with vibrant red to burgundy tones at the base, providing year-round visual interest. In spring and early summer, Tasred® produces delicate blue flowers with yellow stamens, followed by attractive purple berries that are bird-attracting and ornamental. It thrives in a wide range of conditions across Melbourne, including full sun to heavy shade, and performs well in both dry and damp soils provided they are well-drained. With excellent frost and drought tolerance once established, this variety is ideal for mass planting, borders, understorey use, and low-maintenance landscaping. Its bold foliage colour and tidy habit make it equally at home in native gardens or contemporary designs.
