Common Name:
Golden Halo Monterey Cypress
Description:
Cupressus macrocarpa 'Golden Halo' is a spreading, low-growing cultivar of Monterey Cypress, known for its bright, golden-yellow foliage that provides a year-round splash of colour in the garden. Unlike its upright relatives, 'Golden Halo' forms a broad, layered habit with gracefully arching branches, making it an excellent ground-covering conifer or low feature shrub. Its evergreen needles are particularly vivid in full sun, where the foliage develops its most intense golden tones, fading slightly to lime-green in shadier spots. It performs well in Melbourne gardens, especially in well-drained soils with a sunny to partly shaded aspect. Tolerant of wind, coastal conditions, and light frost, it’s a hardy, low-maintenance option for adding texture and colour to rockeries, embankments, and borders. This conifer maintains interest throughout the year and is especially valuable in winter when many other plants have lost their foliage or colour.
