Common Name:
Monch Aster

Description:
Aster × frikartii 'Monch' is a long-flowering, herbaceous perennial celebrated for its masses of lavender-blue, daisy-like flowers that bloom from mid-summer well into autumn. This hybrid, a cross between Aster amellus and Aster thomsonii, is renowned for its neat habit, mildew resistance, and exceptional garden performance. Each flower features a golden-yellow centre surrounded by soft, lilac-blue petals that remain vibrant over many months, making it a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. In Melbourne gardens, 'Monch' thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering during extended dry spells. It forms a bushy, upright clump that doesn’t require staking, and is ideal for perennial borders, cottage gardens, and cutting gardens. Deadheading can prolong flowering, while cutting the plant back in late autumn keeps it tidy for the next season.
