Description:
Anisodontea capensis CARNIVAL LIGHTS™ ‘Candy Apple’ is a compact, exceptionally free-flowering shrub prized for its rich, dark red blooms – an unusual colour breakthrough for a genus traditionally dominated by shades of pink. The large, hibiscus-like flowers feature deep red veining and a darker central eye, standing beautifully against its soft green foliage. Naturally upright and bushy, ‘Candy Apple’ provides an impressive floral display over an extended season and is particularly effective in pots, sunny garden beds, borders and courtyard plantings. In Melbourne conditions, flowering can begin in late spring and continue throughout summer and well into autumn, with mild conditions encouraging an even longer display. Plant in full sun to light part shade in fertile, free-draining soil. Once established, it has good heat and drought tolerance, although occasional deep watering during prolonged hot, dry weather will encourage stronger growth and flowering. Its compact habit, long flowering period and tolerance of warm conditions make it an excellent choice for contemporary and water-wise gardens.
